The Payroll & HR Administrator Role:
People are at the core of Corndel, and we are looking for a Payroll & HR Administrator to join the People team to play a key role ensuring the effective and smooth running our payroll processes and support us to evolve our employee offer and experience at Corndel.
In this role, you will be responsible for delivering all aspects of the payroll process, ensuring its accuracy and timeliness to enable us to pay and reward our people and meet our compliance and regulatory responsibilities. Additionally, when needed, you will support HR administration tasks to ensure smooth operations within the HR department.
Responsibilities:
Payroll Processing:
- Deliver end-to-end payroll processing, including onboarding and offboarding employees, managing monthly variations in hours, administering leave entitlements (such as family leave, sabbaticals, long-term absence, and other types of leave), pensions, bonuses, and other compensation components.
- Ensure the accurate and timely release of payslips through the online payroll portal, ensuring employees receive their pay in line with our commitments and governance obligations.
- Coordinate the monthly payroll input to approval timeline, ensuring clear roles, responsibilities, and communication.
Governance & Compliance:
- Stay up to date with UK payroll tax laws and regulations, including PAYE, National Insurance contributions, pensions, and pay entitlements.
- Ensure payroll processes comply with UK legal requirements and company policies.
- Deliver our requirements under PAYE to HMRC according to the tax year calendar and as part of the monthly payroll processing.
- Maintain full traceability and auditability of payroll records.
- Ensure payroll processes operate within agreed internal governance standards and approvals are made in line with agreed delegation of authorities matrices.
System Management:
- Maintain the payroll system, ensuring effective controls and routines are in place to ensure data accuracy, backup, and efficient use to streamline payroll processes.
Reporting:
- Generate and analyse payroll reports for approval, management, accounting, and auditing purposes to support business and external requirements.
- Ensure the timely submission of payroll data to HMRC and other agencies or providers as required.
Support & Communication:
- Proactively communicate payroll information to employees to minimize payroll-related queries.
- Respond to and manage payroll-related questions and issues in a timely and supportive manner, ensuring employees receive accurate information and issues are resolved promptly.
- Work collaboratively with the HR and Finance departments to ensure effective processes and timely resolution of issues.
HR Administration (as and when required and not limited to):
- Support HR in monitoring the HR inbox, ensuring timely responses to queries and issues.
- Complete reference requests and draft templated letters and contracts.
- Assist with HR inductions, ensuring new employees are onboarded smoothly and effectively.
- Communicate leavers to IT to ensure timely deactivation of accounts and retrieval of company property.
About You - What We Are Looking For:
- Previous demonstrable UK payroll experience gained in a payroll function of a medium-sized business (approximately 300+ people).
- In-depth knowledge of UK payroll and pensions regulations, tax, and compliance.
- Experience using payroll software and leveraging technology to improve processes.
- Approachable, easy to talk to, with excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills, with the ability to challenge and get to the root cause of issues and propose solutions.
- Experience in making process improvements, both big and small.
- Treats information with care and respect, maintaining integrity, confidentiality, and handling sensitive information carefully.
- Effective use of MS Office and SharePoint tools to support collaboration, communication, and planning.
- Someone who enjoys working as part of a team and is equally happy to work independently.
